The Big Knit - Cupcake Hat

Another little hat pattern for The Big Knit
Cast on 28 sts in pale yellow.
Row 1: p1, (k2, p1) to end
Row 2: k1, (p2, k1) to end
Row 3: p1, (k1, m1, k1, p1, k2, p1) 4 times, k1, m1, k1, p1 - 33 sts
Row 4: k1, (p3, k1, p2, k1) 4 times, p3, k1
Row 5: p1, (k3, p1, p2, k1) 4 times, k3, p1
Row 6: as for row 4
Row 7: p1, (k3, p1, k1, m1, k1, p1) 4 times, k3, p1 - 37 sts.
Row 8: k1, (p3, k1) to end
Row 9: p1, (k3, p1) to end
Row 10: (k1, p1) in pale yellow, p4 in white, (p2, k1) in pale yellow, p4 white, p3 light yellow, p4 white, (k1, p2) in pale yellow, p4 white, (p1, k1, p1) in pale yellow, p4 white, (p2, k1) pale yellow. Take care on this row to make sure you bring all the strands across the wrong side of the knitting.
Row 11: (p1, k1) light yellow, (k2, m1, k1, m1, k1, m1, k2) white, p1 light yellow,(k2, m1, k1, m1,k1, m1, k2) white, k1 pale yellow 3 times, (k2, m1, k1, m1, k1, m1, k2) white, p1 pale yellow - 52 sts.
Break off pale yellow and continue in white only.
Rows 12-14: stocking stitch, beginning p.
Row 15: (k2, k2tog) to end - 39 sts.
Row 16: p
Row 17: (k1, k2tog) to end - 26 sts.
Row 18: p
Row 19: (k2tog) to end - 13 sts.
Row 20: p1, (p2tog) to end - 7 sts.
Break off white and join on red.
Row 21: knit into the front, then back, then front again of every st in the row - 21 sts.
Rows 22-26: st-st, beg p
Row 27: (k3tog) to end - 7 sts.
Break off a long length of yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull up tightly and fasten off.
Seam row edges. Turn right side out. Stuff ‘cherry’ with waste pieces of yarn. Use red yarn to gather around the base of the ‘cherry’, draw up tightly and fasten off.

DK yarn with 4mm needles. The little hat can then fit on top of a bottle.

Fran, the pattern is for a small hat which can fit on top of an Innocent Smoothie bottle. People all over the UK (and parts of Europe) are knitting these small hats to raise money for Age charities to help keep the elderly warm over winter.
