100th Post - Piggywig (free pattern)

I was going to post about how I connected with my domestic goddess and baked muffins this morning but as it is my 100th post I thought I would share a pattern with my readers.

This is Piggywig. I only started him this afternoon so he is a super quick knit if you needed a present in a hurry.

He's about 12cm tall. You'll need straight 2.75mm needles, a darning needle, some polyester stuffing and oddments of yarn in pink, blue, green, cream and black.

Gauge is not too important - I knit at about 9sts:10rows:1 inch - just make sure that your knitting is nice and tight so the stuffing doesn't show through.

Body
Using pink, cast on 30 sts. Mark the centre of the cast on sts.
P 1 row.
Next row: Inc K-wise into every st - 60 sts.
Beginning with a P row, st-st 7 rows.
Next row: (K2, K2tog) to end - 45 sts.
P 1 row.
Break off pink and join on blue.
Beginning with a K row, st-st 10 rows. Mark the centre of the last blue row.
Break off blue and join on green and cream.
Work 10 rows in 2 row stripes of green and cream, starting with green.
Next row: (white yarn) (K1, K2tog) to end - 30 sts.
P 1 row.
Break off cream and join on pink.
St-st 2 rows.
Next row: Inc K-wise into every st - 60 sts.
Beginning with a P row, st-st 17 rows.
Next row: (K1, K2tog) to end - 40 sts.
P 1 row.
Next row: (K2tog) to end - 20 sts.
Next row: (P2tog) to end - 10 sts.
Break off a long length of yarn, thread through the remaining sts and pull up tightly.
Join row edges, leaving a opening in the back of the head. Fold cast on sts in half, with marked centre to seam edge. Oversew across cast on sts. Turn right side out. Stuff body. Close seam in head. Thread a long length of pink yarn through the first pink knitted row of the head and pull up tightly to shape the neck.

Trouser Turn-ups
Using blue, cast on 45 sts. Cast off.
Join row edges. Place around the lower edge of the pants. Sew in place.

Nose
Using pink, cast on 12 sts.
Beginning with a P row, st-st 3 rows.
Next row: (K2tog) to end - 6 sts.
Break off a long length of yarn, thread through the remaining sts and pull up tightly. Join row edges. Gather round cast on sts, pull up tightly and fasten off. Work a few sts through the centre of the nose to flatten the shape. Sew to front of head.
Work two backstitches with black yarn on the nose, as in the picture. For the eyes, work backstitches on the face over the nose.

Ears.(make 2)
Using pink, cast on 10 sts.
Beginning with a P row, st-st 5 rows.
Next row: (K2tog) to end - 5 sts.
Break off long length of yarn, pull up tightly and fasten off. Join row edges. Position ears on head, slightly to the front, and sew in place.

Arms (make 2)
Using green, cast on 14 sts.
Beginning with a K row, st-st 2 rows.
Work 2 rows in cream, then 2 rows in green.
Break off green and cream and join on pink.
Beginning with a K row, st-st 6 rows.
Next row: (K2tog) to end - 7 sts.
Break off long length of yarn, pull up tightly and fasten off. Join row edges. Oversew across cast on sts with seam to centre back. Position arms to side of body and sew in position.

Tail
Using pink, cast on 20 sts. Cast off.
Weave in ends. Position tail on rear of body and sew in place.

Good Luck with the knitting, and please email me if you have any questions.

I think row 11 under the body section should be K2tog, repeat to end of round. The way you have it written gives a stitch count of 40 at the end of the row just like when a k1,k2tog to end is used at the top of the head.

Thanks for the pattern! I'm thinking about altering it to make a Richard Scarry type pig plush for a friend's kid's thrid birthday.
